Girish Ghate; a resident of Thane, is working for social cause through Prabhakar Foundation; a non Profit Making organisation founded by himself in 2006 particularly to work in the area of rural education & development.
Mr. Ghate has built and is running a secondary school in village Yavali in Solapur district which is providing free education to over 250 students every year up to standard 10th. He implemented an ambitious program in Solapur district providing free textbooks to 5th & 10th standards of unaided schools in Solapur district benefiting over 160 schools and over 10,000 students. Mr. Ghate is associated with more than 30 schools in rural area of Solapur district and implemented several projects for upliftment of schools including reconstruction & repairs of buildings, providing toilets, solar electrification, water purification and sanitation, teacher’s training programs, etc.
Work of Mr. Ghate was recognised by ‘Maharashtra Rajya Kruti Samiti’; a statewide secondary & higher secondary school teachers association by honouring him with ‘lifetime achievement award’ in August 2019. Mr. Ghate through Prabhakar Foundation has also worked closely in Jawhar district of Thane for providing solar electrification, reconstruction of check dam, providing basic infrastructure facilities to unaided schools.
Mr. Ghate is an active member of Rotary and has a strong influence of Rotary principles on his approach towards life. He has made significant contribution in social upliftment in rural areas of Thane district through his involvement through Rotary. He was instrumental in starting “Rotary Youth Exchange Program” in Thane district for young students to get exposure to global culture and work towards international understanding & peace.
